A Terrorist Attack on an American Consulate

There is a great deal of discussion regarding the terrorist attack on our Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Most of the debate and the focus of the developing outrage seems to be centered around what appears to be an attempt by the White House and senior officials in the State Department to cover up the details to avoid admitting that it was a terrorist attack. Blaming it instead on a disgusting video attacking the Muslim religion. The controversy regarding how much of this was a real attempt to cover up and how much was bad intelligence and bad communications is a very legitimate debate, especially in the middle of a Presidential Election.

But, there is a part of all this that disturbs me. Disturbs me deeply. What I have not heard one single word about is: "What are we going to do about it???"

Oh yes, I have heard the President and the Secretary of State say we will find out who did this and bring them to justice. That's fine. I'm glad to hear them say that. But when and how? Are we going to do an Israeli "Black September" operation? Are we going to send in the SEALS to take out terrorist bases in Libya? Are we going to start drone flights over Libya? Are we going to tell the Navy and the Air Force to go in and bomb the terrorist training and staging bases into oblivion? Are we going to give the Libyan Ambassador a good talking to? Are we going to make speeches saying "We don't hate Muslims. We want to be your friends. Please don't do this again."?

I know they can't give us physical details about exactly what they are doing. That would tip off the bad guys. I get it. But I'd like a little more fire and resolve in what they are able to tell us. And I'd like to see some results. -A couple of heads stuck on pikes stuck out in the middle of the Libyan Dessert would be very nice, thank you. But I know that's far too uncivilized and I should not even say such things. Well, Mr. President, Madame Secretary, these guys are not (have not and will not) been fighting a civilized war. Maybe it's time to get down in the dirt and fight them with their own tactics and make them face some of their own consequences.... or is that too simple an idea to have merit?

And I don't want to wait another 10 years, as it did to finally get Osama bin Laden. We have the greatest, most professional and strongest military in the history of the world. We have more intelligence agencies and organizations then you can count -The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the National Security Agency (NSA), the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), Army Intelligence, Air Force Intelligence, the Coast Guard Counter Terrorist Task Force, The FBI and Homeland Security all have assets available to put on this. And if that's not enough, we have people outside the United States to help us. People like the Masad, British Intelligence, French Intelligence, Saudi Arabian Intelligence, INTERPOL and on and on.... Please don't try to tell us that, with all those resources you can't identify, track down and bring to justice the handful of people responsible for this attack before our grandchildren are ready for retirement.

It's good we are are mad about an apparent attempt at a cover up -and it's good some of our politicians and media are going to dig into all of this. But let's not let that distract us from the real point. We were attacked and Americans were killed. Let's not just talk about it -Let's do something about it!

Live Long and Prosper...
