Respect for Religion 101 -Part 2

One of the blogs I read regularly is called Gubu-World. In his description of his blog he writes: "Gubu World is an Irishman's view of global affairs. Gubu is an Irish political phrase that stands for grotesque, unbelievable, bizarre and unprecedented. Gubu World is a political blog that debates international issues of contention. While keeping an eye on events in Ireland we regularly debate developments in Iraq, Iran, Israel and other troubled spots."

One of his blogs contained a clip from You Tube which I liked so well -and which fit so nicely as a follow up to my tirade yesterday about "Respect for Religion" that I decided to blatantly steel it and stick in in here (my thanks and apologies to Ted).

I want to preface it a little by telling you that I am not a big fan of Bill Maher. I generally find him so far left on issues he is off the page, but this time he is right on the mark. I'll leave it to you to decide what you think:

No need to apologise Gary

Sharing is always good in the blogosphere. It's a great clip. There is no doubt Maher is one of the most left wing people on American TV. His hostility to religion is his most notable trait. I used to be a lefty myself but like many people eventually do I just got fed up with it. It annoyed me that those on the far left who claim to be in favour of womens rights, workers rights and against racism were unwilling or incapable of speaking out against militant Islam which is the greatest offender in these areas. That is why I liked this clip so much. Maher may be a far left guy but at least he's not afraid to call it like it is when it comes to militant Islamic terrorism.

Thanks, again, Ted. Like you, I have also made the trip from far more liberal to much more conservative. In my case, I have a tendency to lean more right on economic issues and more left on social issues. The current US administration ha unfortunately gone so far left that they are continually abusive in both areas. The problem is that, although I look forward to the government swinging back at election time, I worry that the swing will be too far right. Extremists of all shades and colors make me nervous.

I think it is not a good idea to put a Jewish Bill Maher making fun of Muslim culture.

Not sure who is audience to your BLOG- but i believe there is a certain audience who can find this clip real offensive

Why do we have to keep ourself look better by bringing someone down.

I believe as an author of this BLOG you have mentioned in your profile that you respect "all religions" then why embedding a Jewish Man making fun of Muslim culture clip?

First, let me point out that what I said was that I respect everyone's path to God whatever that path may be BUT I make exception when it is blatantly ridiculous or involves harming yourself or others. In this case, Mr Mahr was making comments about a group of people who use poison gas against little girls for going to school and who threaten to kill a cartoonist for drawing cartoons. I believe these clearly fall into those categories. I have no apologies to make for making fun of people like that.
Before answering the rest of your note, let me ask you a question. Do you actually mean that, by defending those people, you believe they represent the Muslim religion and that you feel those activities are somehow justified? Because, my friend, if you do, you and I probably are never going to come to agreement on these things.
