September 11th, the Ninth Anniversary

Today is the ninth anniversary of the attack on America by Osama Bin Laden and his band of fanatics. 3,000 (plus) Americans died on that horrific day and many more thousands suffered as a result. This is a day that needs no special attention to be etched into our memories. There are, nevertheless, a number of events commemorating this day. I have seen and received numerous invitations to participate in everything from a prayer service to “A Day of National Service” (the first lady will be helping to renovate a retirement center for military veterans). It seems that everyone will have some special way of remembering and honoring the memory of this event, because in one way or another it has effected us all.

For me, though, there is something left undone and no one seems to mind. There is a task left to complete that I believe would be the best of all possible ways to commemorate this day. Nine years after this mass murder of American citizens not one suspect has been brought to trial. Not one. No one has been dragged before the bar of American Justice to answer for these crimes. Just why is that?

Hey, Mr. Attorney General! In case you had not noticed we have the entire resources of the government of the United States of America, the most powerful nation ever known to man. –So tell me again, just why haven’t we brought even one of these guys to trial? Just what is the hang up? You have had suspects in custody –for years. Can’t you put a case together? Are you totally incompetent? Are you not sure you have the right guys? So, what is the hold up? I don’t get it. I mean, nine years after all.

And, while we are at it, tell me again why one man (Osama Bin Laden) hiding in caves in Pakistan can escape our vengeance for nine years? The entire Department of Defense, the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency the Defense Intelligence Agency, The Department of Justice, the Department of State, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Intelligence Services of our allies, including the all-powerful Israeli Mossad, cannot, after 9 years, locate and eliminate this menace? Really? Who are you trying to kid? Just how long are we going to let this guy sit in his cave thumbing his nose at us, planning more mass murder and taunting us with those irritating recordings? How long?

Can’t we, please, bring a little justice to the memories of those we lost? Can’t we see our enemies receive the punishment they so richly deserve? Let us, please, just this once, get our act together!

This weekend, you can support the troops two ways at once! A cup of coffee for a hero can also mean donations to help Soldiers' Angels continue to support that hero long past the last drop of delicious coffee...

The Cup of Joe project by Green Beans Coffee allows anyone, anywhere in the world, to say thanks to the troops through the simple act of buying a cup of coffee online and having it delivered along with their own personal note of encouragement into the hands of a deployed Soldier.

In honor of those who have served since 9-11-01, Green Beans is donating $1 for every dollar spent on "Cup of Joe for a Joe." It begins at midnight on Friday, and ends at midnight on Sunday.

To donate a Cup of Joe for a Joe… and help SA support more troops at the same time, go to www.greenbeanscoffee.com/coj. Remember, it starts at midnight tonight.

On this weekend of remembrance, our hearts go out to all who lost someone in the attacks of 9-11-01, and all who have served and sacrificed since that day.
