The Senate Demonstrates It'sEffectiveness (or not)

Our honorable representatives in Washington certainly have had a busy and important week. They have been trying desperately to solve the nations spending and debt crisis. Of course, there are those of us who feel that if they had been doing their jobs properly and passed a budget for 2011 when they were supposed too, and addressed the subject of spending beyond income back when the fresh batch of Republicans were first elected (partially because they promised to do just that) –well the whole crisis would have never been a crisis to start with.

Nevertheless, I was impressed at how hard the people in Washington appeared to have been working. I was so impressed, and surprised, that I decided t take a quick look at just what it was they were doing and accomplishing in our Senate.

Here is what they did on just one day, Wednesday July 27th. They successfully passed S. Con. Res. 28: A concurrent resolution supporting the goals and ideals of the designation of the year of 2011 as the International Year for the People of African Descent; and S. Res. 240: A resolution condemning the horrific attacks on government buildings in Oslo, Norway; and S. 1188: All-American Flag Act. A bill to require the purchase of domestically made flags of the United States of America for use by the Federal Government.

All those important things considered and passed in just one day! I guess that explains why they were unable to reach and agreement and pass a bill to advert the looming debt crisis. I mean, what with so many important other things to do...

When you see our Representatives turning out work like this and failing completely to resolve the truly important issues, well, it is not hard to understand why Congress has such a low approval rating among the American people.

Live Long and Prosper....
