A $750,000 Soccer Field for Detainess -Are you kidding?

Apparently, Guantanamo detainees (you know the terrorists and "enemy combatants") need their soccer. The U.S. military is putting the finishing touches on a new soccer field for detainees at Camp 6 in Guantanamo Bay. This at a time when hundreds of billions of dollars is being cut from the defense budget and our military personnel are being told they will have to pay a substantial increase for health insurance (something the unionized civilian workers do not have to pay).

The project has set taxpayers back $750,000. That's right, three quarters of a million dollars so people who were caught trying to kill Americans can have a nice field to get their recreation on. Have we lost our minds completely?

The field is reportedly half the size of a standard American football field and has been constructed so that detainees can have “maximum access” to it — about 20 hours a day — including secure passage to the field without a guard escort. The new field replaces a small recreational area in a part of the facility that is no longer used. I guess the old field was just not good enough for "our guests". When asked about the new facility, one Guantanamo source said outdoor activity helps to “reduce behavioral problems” and limits the interaction between guards and prisoners. --Oh, well, that's all right then....

Live Long and Prosper....
