Another "Monkey Brain Day" - Oh no!

I can’t help it. I sat down to write and I got hit by an attack of Monkey Brain. The only thing to do is sit back and see what comes out…

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the average rent for an apartment in the United States is now $1,048 a month…. The average monthly benefit for a retired person on Social Security is $1.230.00… That means the average American trying to live on Social Security has a whopping $182 a month to live on after rent –for food, utilities, phone, medicine, medical co-pays, insurance and clothes. Wow, and they complain that those people are not paying their “fair share” of taxes. Give me a flipping break, will ya…. –By-the-way, the average rent in Manhattan actually went down last year – to $3,284 a month –kinda makes you want to move to the Big Apple, no?

The Academy Award Nominations are out. My favorite movie of 2013 was without question, Lincoln and it got a bunch of Award nominations, just as I predicted. Best Picture, Best Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis), Best Supporting Actor (Tommy Lee Jones and I really hope he gets the award), Best Supporting Actress (Sally Fields), Best Cinematography, Best Director (Spielberg), Best Adapted Screen Play, Best Costume Design, Best Achievement in Film Editing, and Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score). 10 nominations. Well, I guess somebody agreed with me for once…

President Obama has been busy nominating replacements for his cabinet for his second term. So far he’s batting a thousand –I haven’t liked a single one yet. So far his nominations include a CIA Director who is probably the most arrogant and uncooperative man in Washington, a Secretary of State who once threw away his military medals and accused US servicemen of being murders, a Secretary of Defense that says diplomacy is better than sanctions for keeping Iran from getting a nuclear weapon (forget about military options), and a Secretary of the Treasury with no financial experience…. Yep, just about what I expected from him (God help us).

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal gave a speech in which he said: “Our goal is to eliminate all Personal Income Tax and All Corporate Income Tax.” That may be setting the bar a little out of reach, but what a great idea… and a great place to try to get too….

I may miss a couple of days of blogging later this month as I am planning on attending the Navy’s ’West 2013 Exposition’ in San Diego later this month. There are going to be a lot of key conferences and high ranking speakers  (the CNO and a member of the Joint Chiefs among others) about the Navy’s shift and refocus on the Pacific, something I have been wanting and writing about for over a decade….

Yep, enough for today. Y’all go out and make it a good one (it takes work ya know)….

Live Long and Prosper…
