Was the CIA running arms to Syria from Benghazi?

The Telegraph reports that the CIA has been polygraphing operatives who were working in Benghazi. They want to find out if anyone is talking about a gun running operation that was taking place out of Benghazi prior to the 9.11.12 attack.

The report indicates that 35 CIA operatives were working in Benghazi when the attack took place. They were allegedly in an "annex near the consulate working on a project to supply missiles from Libyan armories to Syrian rebels."

The Telegraph article said more Americans were hurt in the attack than early reports indicated, but only losses among State Department personnel had been reported to Congress. This was because "CIA chiefs were actively working to ensure the real nature of its operations in the city did not get out."

According to The Telegraph, since January of this year, some CIA operatives who were in Benghazi have had to submit to numerous polygraphs to figure out if any are talking to Congressional investigators. This has prompted Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) to call for a new investigation into Benghazi. He is one of 150 Reps to do so.

Rep. Wolf believes the CIA is taking part in a cover-up and he wants to hold hearings where people who were on the scene appear before Congress and tell them what was and is going on. He wants them to "testify under oath, [to] do it publicly, and lay it out."

There are several aspects to this that are disturbing. Aside from the obstruction of a Congressional investigation, my concern here is that we were sending missiles to Syrian rebels.

This is important because many Americans, including many Congressional Representatives and Senators, have grave concerns over just who among the Syrian rebels will wind up with those weapons. It is in no one’s best interest for Islamic militants or Al Qaeda to get their hands on missiles.

President Obama and the Administration have repeatedly told us that we were only supplying medical and other humanitarian aid plus communications equipment. They have told us they were “considering” sending small arms but no decision had been made and no arms had been shipped.

Hey, Mr. President: Missiles are not “small arms”.

Congress needs to get to the bottom of this and the CIA needs to stop playing games and start cooperating.

Live Long and Prosper....
