Let’s talk about War

I have a few thoughts about “war” and the way it’s being conducted these days. Thoughts that are not pretty.

First of all, “war” is not a thing to be played with lightly. It should always be a last resort option, so terrible to conceive that everyone wants to try to find some way of avoiding it. 

When it is decided that there is no other option, then war should be conducted in an “all out” fashion. Every bit of energy and every resource available should be put into the effort, not to defeat the enemy -to destroy the enemy.

The problem with today’s world is that war has become small scale and limited. It is used as a tool to force the enemy to a negotiating table. That is wrong. It should be used to force the enemy to their knees in unconditional surrender -in as fast and complete manner as possible. When it is won, the people responsible for forcing it should be punished and made an example of to the entire world and to history.

Our leaders are currently “playing at war” with ISIS, Al Qaeda, and the Taliban. by sending air strikes and advisors, hoping that they can get countries in the middle east to fight “their own” battles. It is, after all, their land and they should fight for it. 

That makes a nice sound bite, but it is false. These Islamic Fanatics are bent on the destruction of the democracies in the middle east -and in western Europe and here, in the United States. They have openly declared it many times and have conducted terrorist strikes repeatedly trying to spread panic and chaos. They will continue to do this until they are destroyed. If you think they can be negotiated into a peaceful coexistence, you’re an idiot.

It is a terrible and awesome responsibility to declare an all-out war. But it must be done. We must do it, and do it alone if necessary. The entire weight of our armed forces must be thrown into the battle. Peace will not come until these terrorist organizations have been completely and utterly destroyed once and for all. It will not happen until the world is taught that casually engaging in war or terrorism will have consequences, consequences too terrible to even contemplate. 

In the long run, the casualties we will sustain will be far fewer then they will be if we continue to avoid making the decision to go to complete; total war, and get the job done as quickly as possible.

The terrorist attacks, the civilian casualties, the massacres, the atrocities are not going to stop. We are not going to “talk” fanatics into behaving in a civilized manner. The sooner we all realize that, the sooner we can get on with the work of putting an end to this threat to ourselves, our families, our loved ones, our country, our religion, and to civilization. 

History will judge us by saying “Why did they let that go on for so long? What took them so long to just do it?”
