Vacations are a Right!

Here’s a new idea from our European Union friends that may find its way into the Presidents agenda: Oppressed Europeans are about to get a new right -- taxpayer-subsidized vacations.

Antonio Tajani, a European Union commissioner for enterprise and industry, says "Traveling for tourism today is a right. The way we spend our holidays is a formidable indicator of our quality of life."

Apparently subsidizing holidays in the sun for seniors, the disabled, young adults and poor families will build pride in European culture and help bring northern European countries and southern European countries closer. It will also help resorts in the off-season.

A pilot project is set to begin in 2013. It will encourage northerners to head to the sunny south. Persuading southerners to head north may be a little more difficult. The program will also pay for seniors and the disabled to take a companion on the vacation. The projected cost to EU taxpayers will be up to half a billion dollars a year if the program becomes universal.

Quick, somebody send Nancy Pelosi a copy of the program. I did not make it over to Hawaii yet this year…..
