Happy Independence Day, America!

What, did you think I'd forget? Really?

No way, no how, no time. This is our country's birthday and one of those days when we should all celebrate our freedom.

So, no lectures today. It would be inappropriate to use this holiday to make sarcastic comments about how the greatest government in the history of mankind is being mishandled by the progressive agenda of the liberal Democrat Administration. I would never stoop to questioning whether Nancy Pelosi or Joe Biden hold the record for the most political misstatements while in office -or if Harry Reid or Barney Franks were the most openly corrupt - or even to say how President Obama is the most brilliant orator in the history of arrogant incompetence. It would just be wrong and I wouldn't dream of doing that.

So - just go enjoy yourself - Have fun -share the day with family and friends.
Go out and relax.
Breath the clean, free air of American Freedom
.
Go Watch the fireworks and listen to the music.
In short, just go have a good 'ole time!

Margaret & Darryl, look towards the bottom of today's blog.
Hameed, welcome to this free land and good luck on your dissertation this week!

To start you off, here are a few You Tube Clips dedicated to that very thing:

You should really see this first one to get in the mood:

And here is one for Margaret:

And, finally, wish I could share some with you, Darryl, but I'll have one just for you - Happy 4th!

On this Day in History:
America declares Independence, 1776
Vicksburg surrenders, 1863
Thomas Jefferson and John Adams die, 1826

Hi Gary

I hope you enjoyed the 4th of July celebrations. I really enjoyed your posts last week in the run up to the 4th. I was very busy last week so I was unable to comment but I did like them very much.

When it really comes down to it, and when all the spin is finished what I think about America is that it is a country that stand up for what is right. As a European (and a proud one) I have no problem acknowledging and celebrating what America has done for us. They liberated western Europe through sheer blood and guts. They contributed hugely to the liberation of Eastern Europe by standing up to, confonting and ultimately wrestling to the ground the Soviet Empire. I live in a free part of the world. I appreciate it. I have driven across a Europe that no longer has any barbed wire borders or heavily armed check points. I know this would not be the case if it were not for America. I am very grateful.

Ted,
Thank you. I sincerely appreciate hearing that and your perspective, being both (proud) European and Irish, is most interesting, valued, and appreciated.
I had a very good time celebrating the "4th of July" this year.
