Shame on You FOX News

A former Navy SEAL has written a book, "No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden". It is set to hit shelves on Sept 11 and is definitely on my reading list. The author was a member of the SEAL Team that conducted the raid and was in the room when Bin Laden was killed.

It is penned under the pseudonym "Mark Owen".  Using a pseudonym is not just a good idea, it was necessary to protect the former SEAL and his family from revenge attacks by Islamic extremists. But apparently Fox News felt that revealing his true identity was more important then protecting him, his family and his friends. In an article published on FOXNews.com they told the world that his name is in fact Matt Bissonnette, 36, of Wrangell, Alaska. And went on to talk abut how Bissonnette could be exposing himself to legal trouble, as the Pentagon has not vetted the account of the raid in his book.

As a result of this incredible laps in good judgment, Al Qaeda has identified the former SEAL on one of it's web sites. They have also published his picture and his address. And, as might be expected, they are calling for his death. Suddenly his life, and the lives of his friends and family, are in serious jeopardy, especially from home grown wannabe terrorists.

Justin Fishel, the reporter that wrote the story revealing the the former SEAL's true identity, should be fired. I am no lawyer or legal expert but as far as I am concerned, he should be charged with a crime, convicted and locked up --and the key to his cell should be mailed to Matt Bissonnette's family for "safe keeping".

Don't get me wrong, I generally like FOX News. I routinely watch it on TV and I check out it's web site regularly -hell, I even have a live news "ticker" from FOX as a banner at the top of my blog. But, I can not imagine what they were thinking when they allowed this information to be published.  It is a laps of professionalism which is really unforgiveable. By revealing this man's identity they have placed lives in very real danger. Now they will have to share in the moral and legal responsibility for whatever consequences may occur.

Shame on you, FOX News. You should know better! You should be far better then that!

Live Long and Prosper....
