Think the World Will End 12/21? Build an Ark

There are one hell of a lot of predictions about the end of the world supposedly predicted by the Mayan Calendar. Everything from massive flooding to earthquakes to nuclear holocaust. Some are pretty bizarre, even by bizarre standards, like an alien space ship hidden in a mountain in France so mankind can escape, or a planet, Nibiru, which is hidden behind the Sun and will suddenly come around and smash into earth. [Of course, the Mayans made no predictions about the world ending at all. They simply did not feel it necessary to carve a calander more then 5,000 years ahead...]

Well, I guess if you’re going to believe in all this end of the world stuff, maybe it’s best to take a more practical approach –like two men in China who are building arks….

Lu Zhenghai has spent his life savings, some $160,000, building a 70-foot-by-50-foot vessel powered by three diesel engines, according to state media.

“I am afraid that when the end of the world comes, the flood will submerge my house,” the 44-year-old ex-army man was quoted as saying.

China’s most innovative ark builder, however, may be Yang Zongfu, a 32-year-old businessman in eastern China.

His vessel, Atlantis, a three-ton yellow steel ball 13 feet (four meters) in diameter, is designed to survive a volcano, tsunami, earthquake or nuclear meltdown.

As for me? Well I don’t believe in all this stuff, but just to be safe I am stocking up a large supply of wine, beer and alcohol. That way, if the end really does come, I can just sit back in my yard and enjoy the show.

Live Long and Prosper...
